Eyebrows can thin or fade for many reasons, including health conditions and age or over-plucking. Tinting can help bring youthfulness to the face, making them better match your hair and skin tone. This is especially true if you color your hair. While eyebrow tinting should be repeated every few weeks, here are some tips to make each tinting last as long as possible.
Wait to Wash
The longer you let the tinting product sit, the longer the color will last. You should wait at least 12 hours before washing your face, but 24 hours would be ideal. Instead of using a foaming cleanser or cream, try a micellar tonic or toner. Cleaning wipes can also be helpful while waiting for the tinting product to work its magic.
Moisturize Often
Dry hair can break or fall out prematurely, speeding up the fading process. A good moisturizing serum can help prolong your eyebrow tint by nourishing and conditioning the hair. The good thing about a serum is that many of them can be used as a brow gel.
Use Skincare Products Carefully
Exfoliators and other harsh skincare products like scrubs and makeup removers can strip the tint from your eyebrow hairs. If you use these items, take care to avoid the eyebrow area. Applying petroleum jelly or another protective gel to the eyebrows while using strong skincare products like chemical peels may help.
Don’t Overbrush
Eyebrow hairs are more fragile than you think, and brushing can damage them and strip the tinting from them, causing them to fade faster. Brushing isn’t always necessary other than to smooth and shape before using a brow gel or pencil.
Avoid Sun Exposure
UV rays from the sun can fade many things, from clothing to paint, and they can also fade the tint from your eyebrows. It’s just as essential to protect your colored hair and brows from the sun as it is your skin. Shade your face with a hat or large sunglasses to protect your eyebrows, but don’t forget to apply sunscreen to help reduce the risk of skin cancer.
Go a Little Darker
Because you know the color will fade with time, you may want to start with a darker shade. You don’t want to choose a color that is too dark, so be sure to discuss this with your Medspa professional.
