Restore Cracked or Damaged Teeth
Dental crowns are an effective dental treatment because they can repair seriously damaged teeth while preserving the natural appearance. A dental crown may be recommended by one of our dentists at Creative Dentistry & Medspa for a number of reasons. Often, they are used to cover a tooth that is cracked, worn down, broken or weakened from dental treatments. It can also be placed to support a tooth with a large filling or to cover a discolored or badly shaped tooth. Crowns can also be a part of another treatment, such as protecting a tooth that has been treated with a root canal or placed as part of a dental bridge.
Your dentist will first prepare the affected tooth to receive a crown by shaving down its size in order to create enough room for the crown to fit. Once the proper size is achieved, an impression will be taken of the prepared tooth. A dental laboratory will use this impression to create the dental crown. While you are waiting for your crown to be made at our dental lab, a temporary crown can be placed on the prepared tooth. After about two weeks, the completed crown will be ready to be placed onto the affected tooth to complete this treatment. Dental Inlays and Onlays
In some cases, a complete dental crown is not needed for a tooth repair. Dental inlays and onlays are dental restorations that offer protection for a damaged tooth, but they only cover the top or a portion of the tooth. Like crowns, inlays and onlays are created in a dental lab, usually formed from porcelain. Once they are completed, they are bonded to the tooth to strengthen and protect the tooth.
