Sedation Dentistry – What it is all about? ,

If the thought of visiting your Atlanta dentist makes you feel uneasy, you’re not alone – millions of Americans suffer from dental anxiety; it’s one of the most common fears among adults.

Perhaps you’ve had a bad experience as a child, you have a severe gag reflex or your teeth are sensitive? Maybe you’re in pain, you’re embarrassed, or you just plain don’t like going to the dentist?

Unfortunately, avoiding routine oral care usually leads to serious complications that can require costly, uncomfortable treatments that can make your existing dental anxiety even worse!

Here at Creative Dentistry & Medspa, we are committed to providing our patients with a relaxing, comfortable oral health care experience – that’s why we offer the latest sedation dentistry treatments at our practice.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

During sedation dentistry, patients are placed into a state of relaxation using short-term sedative medications that are prescribed by one of our specially-trained sedation dentists. Which medications you take and your level of sedation (consciousness) depend on a few factors, including your medical history, the type of dental treatment and your level of anxiety.

Contrary to popular belief, these medications don’t cause you to become completely unconscious like you would be during an operation – you’ll remain aware of your surroundings, however, you’ll feel calm and comfortable.
Sedation dentistry offers safe, effective relief from the fear and anxiety of dental treatments, providing patients like you with a relaxing, comfortable experience here at Creative Dentistry & Medspa.

What To Expect

On the day of your appointment, you’ll either take a sedative pill, be administered nitrous oxide (a.k.a. laughing gas) or receive your sedative through a small intravenous needle (IV). You’ll also typically receive a local anesthetic (numbing medication) to further minimize any discomfort from your dental treatment.

While under sedation, our caring dental team can perform routine cleanings, repair chipped or cracked teeth, extract wisdom teeth, replace crowns and repair cavities. Many of our sedation dentistry patients find that are comfortable with extended treatments; this reduces the number of visits needed to the dentist!
